We recently had a wonderful opportunity to introduce our Pre-K and Kindergarten students to the rich traditions of Lunar New Year. The classroom was filled with curiosity and excitement as the children gathered to learn about this meaningful celebration.
Our students were incredibly attentive as they explored the history behind Lunar New Year, as well as its vibrant cultural traditions. From learning about the zodiac animals 🐴 to understanding the significance of festive customs 🧨, the children were fully engaged in every part of the experience.

One of the highlights of the day was learning how to say “Happy New Year” in Mandarin: 新年快樂 (Xin Nian Kuai Le). The children practiced the pronunciation with enthusiasm, filling the room with joyful voices and smiles 🀄️🎉.
Moments like these are so special in a Montessori environment, where cultural awareness and global understanding are nurtured from an early age. Experiences like this not only expand the children’s knowledge but also help them develop a deeper appreciation for traditions around the world.
Being part of this classroom experience also brought back heartfelt memories of sharing Chinese New Year celebrations with my own children when they were young. It was a beautiful reminder of how meaningful it is to pass on cultural traditions and create lasting connections ❤️🥹.
At Villa Di Maria Montessori, we cherish opportunities like these that bring learning to life and celebrate the diversity of our world.
